3 teenagers arrested after armed robbery at Trader Joe's in Danville

DANVILLE, Calif. (KRON) -- Three suspects in an armed robbery reported Friday afternoon at a Trader Joe's in Danville have been arrested, police announced in a Facebook post.

The victim in the robbery reported to police that he was held up at gunpoint by two suspects when he exited his vehicle at the grocery story. His property was stolen and then the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle waiting nearby.

Danville Police, Contra Costa County Deputy Sheriffs, and Sheriff's Office STARR helicopter began searching the area for the suspects. Detectives from the Sheriff's Office Investigation Division eventually found the suspect vehicle in Antioch. With the help of Antioch Police, law enforcement was able to arrest all three suspects.

One suspect, Leon Fountain, 18, of San Jose was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of armed robbery, conspiracy, participating in a criminal street gang, and weapons violations. He is being held on $380,000 bail. The other two suspects are juveniles and their names will not be released by police.

"I can't believe it happened here in Danville. It is crazy, such a safe place," said Mary Anne Winter-Greene, Danville resident.

There were no reports of injuries, and the suspect vehicle left the scene. The Trader Joe's is located at 85 Railroad Ave., which is one block away from San Ramon Valley High School and west of downtown Danville. It is roughly one mile west of Highway 680 going northbound.

Danville Police Chief, Allen Shields, shared tips with residents on what to do in situations like this. “We believe and we recommend what the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI recommend which is the 'run, hide, fight' program and that’s actually what we provide training to,” said Shields.
