Man shot by police in Danville dies from injuries

UPDATE (3/17/21): The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that the the suspect, 32-year-old Tyrell Wilson, has died while at the hospital.

DANVILLE, Calif. (KRON) - Authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting involving the Danville Police Department Thursday.

Just before noon, a Danville police officer responded to the intersection of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon after several people called 911 saying they saw a man throwing rocks at traffic on the freeway.

When the officer arrived on the scene, they found the man in the middle of the road and tried to talk with him.

Police say the man then pulled out a knife and after being told several times to drop it the man instead approached the officer. 

The officer then fire his weapon once, striking the unidentified man.

Several investigators, including the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office, swarmed the insection which forced the area near Brookside Drive and San Ramon Valley Boulevard to closed for hours this afternoon.

That area reopened around 3:30 p.m.

The Contra Costa County DA's office and the sheriff's office are handling this investigation. 

They are not releasing the name of the officer or the man in this case but we are told the man is in the hospital tonight being treated for his injuries.
